Orphans no more
An inspirational story of human beings are coming to the rescue for baby elephants. The problem of course, is that humans are the reason why baby elephants need rescuing. That’s where the Nairobi nursery of the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust comes in. It’s an orphan-elephant rescue and rehabilitation center, presumably one of the most successful in the world. It takes in elephants from all over Kenya, nurses them until they no longer need milk (and provides them with raincoats!), and slowly reintroduces them to the wild. So far, it has successfully rescued more than a hundred orphans.           National Geographic (click for full story) Photo Credit: Michael Nichols/National Geographic Published on September 8, 2011 Related articles Orphaned elephants and rescued giraffes (thetallandtheshortofit.wordpress.com) Colin Firth and baby elephants – what more could you want? He aims to break the stereotypes, and call attention to a flawed shelter system that does... Continue Reading

Plentitude Economics
New Dream Mini-Views: Visualizing a Plenitude Economy from Center for a New American Dream on Vimeo. Presented by The Center for a New American Dream, and summarizing the content of Schor’s book Plenitude: The New Economics of True Wealth, what I love about this video is that it absolutely brims with positivity, excitement and optimism. This is not about letting go of a system that is working well, yet is unsustainable—it is about accepting our status quo is broken, and taking our culture and our economy to the logical next step in ensuring health, happiness and planetary stability.   Related...
